Genuine Act had a great desire to spread the message of the Intellectually Disabled. The team strived to create a public awareness about Movement For The Intellectually Disabled Of Singapore (MINDS), and the society’s important role to aid the intellectually disabled. The funds raised will enable MINDS to improve and implement better services for the intellectually disabled.
The team conducted a presentation and screened a movie on the Intellectually Disabled in their school, illustrating the importance of acceptance of the beneficiaries. Added to street sales of bears, they set up a MINDS booth at Heeren and a road show at VivoCity, which was publicised by sending posters to schools, mass emailing and a created blog site to promote MINDS’ services for its beneficiaries. A manga-drawing competition was held as well, with prizes sponsored by “Lucky Store” and the 77th Street. They also had door-to-door sales of CDs recorded by artistes and band performers to inform the general public of their VWO while raising more funds. Sound bites of their CD were also uploaded on their blogsite to entice more buyers of the CDs.
The volunteers were also given with food and drinks during the long shifts of street sales, and along with Community Involvement Programe (CIP) hours, letters and gifts of appreciation to encourage their involvement in community service in the future.
In total, Genuine Act raised $3,257.00 for the MINDS, and reached out to more than 5.000 members of the public. |
