HopePho aimed to raise fund and public awareness for their supporting VWO, the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore (MDAS). The fund raised will be used by the MDAS to support their Life Skills Programmes, Greeting-cards Project and uplift their members’ lives.

The team co-organised a field trip to the Singapore Botanic Gardens for members of the MDAS. Each beneficiary was paired with a volunteer with a disposable camera for a photography session, providing them an opportunity for interaction and gaining a deeper understanding of the difficulties their partners face everyday. The photographs, taken by the beneficiaries and volunteers, were later used as part of the designs of the CD covers, computer wallpapers, as well as for public display purposes.

Funds were collected through the donation cards, and street sales of CDs and balloon sculptures, with the help of 436 volunteers coming from various institutions namely Damai Secondary School, Raffles Junior College, Victoria Junior College, Saint Andrew’s Junior College, Nanyang Girls’ Boarding School, Maris Stella High School and the Raffles Institution Boarding School. They were each given an information sheet on MDAS to provide their donors the correct information of the beneficiaries which they will be assisting.

The social impact and public awareness for the VWO were later broadened, through an online blog site created by the team. Imation® Singapore had contributed 1,500 Compact Discs to their project, while the printing of donation cards and CD envelopes were sponsored by Grenadier Press.

By the end of their project, the team raised a total of $11,674.41 for MDAS.
