Team Candylicious! supported the beneficiaries of BMT (Blood and Marrow Transplant) 4 Kids, one of the programmes under NUH Patient Care Charity Fund. The team came together believing the life of these children should be as sweet and fun as candies.
Their project included of street sales of novelty candies and chocolates which cannot be found in Singapore, and they also set up a virtual reality store in Second Life, an online virtual reality game. With an estimated number of 16 million users in Second Life, every click to the virtual candy store will give the user access to the information of the NPO.
The team never failed to explore innovative channels to spread the message, they set up a blog through LiveJournal.com, created a Facebook group, and nevertheless organized a virtual donation drive through Second Life. They were able to tab on and explore new technologies, which led the project to be known not only locally, but probably internationally. With their unconventional approach, they also caught the attention of media: The Strait Times has once featured their story in the online newspaper. They also organized street sales in 9 venues like Suntec City, Tampines Mall, Hwa Chong Institution and reached out to different target groups.
Team Candylicious has managed to raise a total income of $9,580.39 and reach out to an estimation of over 1 million of the public, including those who they approached in street sales as well as netizens who visited their virtual reality store in Second Life. |
