LYKE represents 4 undergraduate students, who became friends during their junior college days. They participated in this social-entrepreneurship initiative as they saw its unique difference from other entrepreneurship programs. Together as a team, they chose St Andrew’s Autism Centre as their choice of beneficiary. They felt that autism had a greater cause of awareness to be fought for in Singapore.
Aiming not only to raise the awareness of autism in Singapore, the team also wanted to demonstrate the beneficiaries’ unique talent through art work. They chose 4 different art pieces drawn by the children to be printed into greeting cards which they sold at $2 each to the public and in schools. The revenue generated were channeled back to support their next phase of the project, which was the production of a catalogue showcasing SAAC’s work and the art pieces which they will be selling in the art auction.
Positive Art Auction, bearing with the slogan “Seeing ability in every disability”, is the final event whereby they appealed to many second generation local artists to donate their art works to their event and their cause. They also selected 2 art pieces from the children of SAAC to be auctioned off during the event. Their Guest of Honour was Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports & Ministry of Transport, and other distinguished guests to witness the auction. The event proceeded smoothly and they managed to auction away a large percentage of the pieces and raised funds for SAAC.
At the end of their project, the team raised a total of $25,000.30 for St. Andrew’s Autism Centre, mobilized 160 volunteers from schools and ministries as well as local and international artists who contributed their art pieces to auction. |
