VWO: Child at Street 11 Ltd (Singapore)

Save-n’08! is a follow-up to Save-n’07! last year. This year, the project is done adhered by a project motto “You can count how many seeds there are in an apple, but you can't count the number of apples that can grow out of a seed.” This motto is a metaphor of the team’s hopes for the recipients at Child at Street 11 Ltd. The children are like seeds with limitless potential in the future, no matter what difficulties they are facing currently. The team hoped that their project will be able to help to develop the potential of these children.

The team went on street sales to sell apple; message cards and donation drive in public areas, mini bonanzas and also poetry and drawing contest for primary school students. The variety of components in the project also demonstrates the creativity of the team in their vision to obtain the objective of raising fund as well as awareness for the VWO.

With novelty street sales items like fresh apples and special designed message cards bearing the motto, they took an ambitious step of organizing 45 street sales which stretched over 3 months. The idea of selling fresh apples on the street is uncommon in Singapore and yet the team managed to make a niche on it by teaching the volunteers a special marketing message which echoes with the motto and did nice packaging to make the item more appealing. This proves to be a success as the apples is the constant sold-out items throughout the street sales.

Their creativity and clear objectives of different events, with the well-managed volunteers had contributed to the good fund management of the team – a surprisingly low cost of less than 700 dollar for the project had helped the VWO to raise $43,490.97, with 1,500 volunteers involved and have a public outreach of 100,000.
