Nanyang Girls’ High School in its effort to find out more about YFC programme, sent her Vice Principal to attend the breakfast briefing conducted by the YFC Secretariat in March. After discussion with the School's Management, the school agreed that it would be a worthwhile experience for the students to be engaged in this programme. A teacher was purposefully appointed to oversee and coordinate the programme for it to be more structured and organized.
They actively promoted YFC by spreading out this opportunity through various channels. Two briefing sessions were organized during assembly talks. One of the briefings was conducted by the YFC Secretariat upon an invitation from the school. Another briefing was conducted by Save-n'07! who was awarded the Best Team Award in 2007 and they shared their experience with the students.
A total of 7 proposals were submitted and all 7 were selected. The teams are Save-n'08, Reach, Youth Looking Ahead, Forget Me Not, Prism of Colors, New Hope and This Functional.
The air time during morning assemblies was given to promote various fund raising projects and permission was given to students to put up posters as part of marketing strategy. With 7 groups in mind, schedule was put in place for various groups to set up stalls in school. This enabled a good spread for maximized amount raised as well as helped to create awareness.
The groups approached students from Nanyang Girls' High School to support the projects as volunteers. CCA teachers-in-charge also saw this as an opportunity to incorporate service learning for their CCA group and hence encouraged their CCA groups to participate. In recognition, student volunteers were given CIP hours by their CCA teachers when they helped the teams in their projects.
One of the groups raised funds through sales of tickets of a performance and they requested for usage of school's auditorium with the school's management lending their support by waiving the rental and the technician's overtime charges.
The enormous support that Nanyang Girls’ High School rendered to YFC and her school teams has encouraged and motivated their teams to do well. |
