As St. Andrew’s Autism Centre (SAAC) is a relatively new organization, focusing on providing service to people with autism. It does not have a fund raising or Corporate Communications personnel to promote the YFC programme; however they did their best to reply emails to groups from Universities, Polytechnics and schools which enquire about volunteering at their centre to consider joining YFC.
Once Team LYKE approached SAAC with their proposal for an Art Auction, they were committed to give the project their full support. SAAC handed them a file of previous art exhibition which a group of adult volunteers had organized in Year 2000 raising $250,000. An art teacher who is experienced in organizing art exhibitions was also recruited to help Team LYKE to execute their project.
SAAC allowed the team to interact with their students in various activities like art, music and recreation therapy workshops and Family Day. Visits were also conducted to the school to enhance the team’s understanding of the services that SAAC provides. They also arranged parents and teachers to be interviewed by the team to share different insights and perspectives about autism and their journey through it.
In the marketing and promotion of the Art Auction, SAAC introduced the team to liaise with YES 93.3FM for on-air radio interview. The finance staff of SAAC gave great guidance to the team’s treasurer in managing their finance. The management also met frequently with the team during the project to give them guidance.
Towards the end of the project, SAAC followed up with the artist and Team LYKE to hold the rights to the sale of paintings, took over the remaining stock of cards and continue with the sales of cards.
An appreciation dinner was held for the team and mentor. SAAC also helped to showcase Team LYKE’s work by preparing an article for the publication in The Bridge, a St. Andrew’s Mission Hospital (the mother organization of SAAC) newsletter. |
