Since joining the Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes programme, the Children’s Cancer Foundation has been actively promoting the programme through their talks and workshops to schools and student groups. Aside from targeting student bodies, they also sent emails to their public education stakeholders to encourage them to participate as well. This successfully led to 15 teams approaching them to be beneficiary of their projects. However after much deliberation, CCF chose 6 teams which eventually entered the top 100 ranks.
During the implementation period, CCF provided the teams with a kit which included all the necessary collaterals, their corporate logo and other necessary information. They also gave the teams materials such as banners, tin cans, brochures, and even sourced out artwork drawn by beneficiaries. To educate teams, CCF conducted workshops to introduce teams to the organization and how other student groups have worked with them.
The also further assisted the teams to source for venues and logistics needed for each event as well as endorsed letters of support for the teams to secure public venue sites. CCF also linked up with their sponsors and other networks to further aid the implementation of the teams’ projects.
The staff kept in regular contact with the teams to provide guidance and suggestions when needed and attended the teams’ events and helped in carrying out events/street sales.
CCF continued to play a big role after the implementation period, lending post-programme support by updating the teams regularly on their finances and reminding teams of report deadlines. To show their appreciation to volunteers and to debrief on the objectives of service learning, they hosted a dinner for the 6 teams and selected student volunteers to be awarded with Certificates of Appreciation. |
