Edwin Tan

Team Leader Inspire’05 – ‘09

Edwin Tan is a true example of how youth can lead and contribute to the society in their own unique and creative ways. In 2004, participating in Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes as a Junior College student, Edwin opened his eyes to the necessity of social enterprise and realised his ability to help those in need.

He strongly encouraged the continuity of the Inspire dream and continued with a leadership role for subsequent teams. As leader, he exuded strong entrepreneurship skills which were one of team’s keys to success. His enthusiasm also serves as the fire which kept the team burning and scaling to new heights.

In 2006, Edwin’s commencement of his undergraduate studies outside Singapore posed a new challenge – his inability to physically be present for most of the team’s activities. However, this circumstance only proved Edwin’s commitment to the success of the project. Despite the time difference, he was always on hand to help each of his team members and was accountable for the results of the project.

Edwin has a firm belief in that the programme’s incredibly well-run and structures and shared the vision of encouraging youth involvement in the community. He is also glad to be a continuing part of “Inspire”, which has seen multiple batches of student organisers pass through its ranks.

Edwin is currently based outside Singapore and will contribute his efforts as a mentor to future Inspire teams to sustain their service to the community at large.
