Pioneer Junior College (PJC) has shown strong commitment and support for the programme since publicity started in February. They actively promoted the programme during their assemblies and required all Year 1 students to attend the briefing conducted by the Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes representatives. The school also set up a Committee, comprising of the Dean of Character Development, Subect Head of Student Development, Subject Head of Partnership and two other teachers to oversee the Youth For Causes projects in the school.
The programme was also integrated into the school’s Civic Programme and invited speakers from Citibank-YMCA Youth For Causes to conduct assembly talks on the programme and the essence of social entrepreneurship. To further support the participants, their civics tutorials were turning into brainstorming periods for project ideas.
With such strong promotional efforts and support given to the student cohort, the school received a record number of over a hundred proposals! After screening by their committee, 38 proposals were selected for submissions and eventually 8 teams made it into the top 100.
During the implementation period, the school assigned teachers to mentor 2 to 3 teams each and even roped in the Vice-Principle to mentor one of the teams. Along with school introduced mentors, teams were also attached with advisors – students who had previously participated in YFC – to give regular advice on administrative matters.
PJC also provided logistical support in terms of providing school facilities ready for teams to hold their meetings. Announcements on each team’s activities were made during morning assemblies which resulted in immense support from students and staff. Finally, a bazaar was organized to lobby for the work done by each team. |
