Ms Rajeswari Devadas was an excellent mentor and role model to Team 3Ws. Despite being a busy mother to two young children, she was always on hand to attend team meetings and listen as well as resolve issues pertaining to the project. Ms Devadas also showed great initiative in going the extra mile to guide her team back on course when they lost direction early on in their project.
Due to the outbreak of the H1N1 virus, the art exhibition that the team had organized was cancelled and this greatly affected their original plan. However, her resourcefulness led her to sell the teams’ vouchers to friends and family. With her efforts, Team 3Ws were able to raise $1,634 in sales.
Understanding that her team had to balance studies and project, she signed up for the YMCA-NUS Business School Volunteer Service Management Programme to empower herself with more knowledge in volunteer and project management. She shared her valuable knowledge with her team afterward, this knowledge was put to great use when they executed their project afterward.
Ms Devadas also motivated and inspired the team to aim for a higher fundraising target of $10,000. She also encouraged her team to be more ambitious and dedicated to the success of the project. In the end, the team was able to exceed their targeted amount and raised a net profit of $10,096.80 for the Asian Women’s Welfare Association.
As mentor, she taught her team many important life skills. There were many moments when the team were on the verge of giving up, but Ms Devadas remained their pillar of support and placed them back on track. Through her mentorship, the team developed into a matured, independent and confident group of youths. |
